I just heard two songs in a row on Spotify radio and was struck by the difference each one had on my outlook. One minute I was encouraged and felt like I could tackle a mountain of tasks, the next one made me afraid to even risk a phone call for fear of rejection. Thank be to God for this revelation that allowed me to objectively view this turn of attitude instead of just trying to fight through it.
It is both practically and scientifically proven that music has a drastic effect on our lives, brains, thoughts, and emotions. No matter what your listening standards are, I highly recommend you pray about them and verify that they are in harmony with where God wants to take you next because your choice in music will affect your walk as well.
With that said, it was interesting to me that both of these songs had the same message and both were Christian songs. The names of these songs were “Always Will” and “Never Will”. Basically the first is about how God will always be with us, and the second about how He will never leave us. Obviously the positive versus the negative view of God’s faithfulness will strike a different chord in each person who hears it.
Now you’d probably like to know what this has to do with purity. Basically it backs up the fact that purity can’t be a list of don’ts. It’s not about “never” kiss, hug, date, cuddle, drive, think, desire, etc. It’s about “always” living a life of pure fulfillment by adhering to God’s portrait of a sacred love story instead of following the shallow trends of tasteless passion that Hollywood peddles at every corner.
If you feel like purity is so last year, then take a minute to step back and see what you really think it is. Just like those songs, if one view of it hits you in the negative then it will affect the way you approach it. But if you can step past thinking of purity as a list of forbidden fruit and start viewing it as the way God wants to show you His endless love through your love life then you will experience true satisfaction and joy.
